We provide each and every patient with a comprehensive pain management plan, which may include everything from lifestyle and dietary changes, psychotherapy, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, medication recommendations, and interventional treatments like nerve blocks. Our approach to chronic pain is a multi-modal one, as we know that given these disorders are difficult to treat, the use of multiple modalities collectively acts synergistically to alleviate chronic pain. See below for a more in-depth description of the different available treatment modalities.
Nerve Blocks and Trigger Point Injections
Nerve Blocks and Trigger Point Injections are injections to break the cycle of your pain. The injections involve the physician using a special anesthetic injected into nerves and muscles to help calm down your pain. These procedures, which are highly effective in chronic pain, are covered under the OHIP system. They provide immediate and meaningful relief to patients, allowing them to do more in their lives.
Botox for Headaches and Migraines
An overwhelming number of patients suffer from headaches and migraines making days a little harder and life a bit more stressful. Over the last several years, published research demonstrates Botox to be effective in treating migraines and headaches. We are proud to provide this service for our patients.
Botox works to relax tense muscles as well as acting on pain receptors responsible for headaches.
Medications
We provide each and every patient with a comprehensive pain management plan, which includes medication recommendations. When appropriate and coordinated with the Family Physician, we provide medication prescriptions at our clinic. Being experts in their field, our physicians are comfortable prescribing an array of different pain medications, including neuropathic agents, cannabinoids, and opioids when appropriate.
Lifestyle and Diet
Everything from your diet, posture, to sleeping habits can affect your day-to-day pain levels. We provide each patient with specific dietary and lifestyle recommendations, including which vitamins and minerals to consume, individual-appropriate exercise regimens, and other lifestyle recommendations.
Psychotherapy and Mindfulness
We understand the reciprocal connection between mood and pain, which can be debilitating for many of our patients. That is why we are well connected with local psychotherapists in the community to ensure comprehensive care.
Rehabilitation
We work closely with other treatment providers including physiotherapists, chiropractors, massage therapists and acupuncturists to provide comprehensive pain management solutions to the patient. These ancillary treatment modalities allow us to provide an all-encompassing approach to treating the whole person. Although these treatment services are not covered under the OHIP system, they are often covered by private insurance plans. Our physicians initiate paperwork to ensure that our patients are able to access their insurance benefits.
